Restorative Yoga – A Mini Break

Having a rough week? Are tasks flying at you like the speed of light, and all you want is to slow life down? Restorative yoga might just be the answer for you!

Restorative yoga is a type of yoga which slows down the pace of life and allows you to receive the same benefits of regular yoga, but with slower, more static movements. The paused motions are the perfect way to pause life for a moment and just relax. This is a great for a busy new mom or someone who just has a lot going on in life right now from work, family, friends or whatever else could be hogging up their time.

Here are 4 of the many health benefits that are associated with doing restorative yoga:

  • Soothing the Nervous System. A busy, stressful lifestyle can really do a number on your nervous system. Allowing your body to wind down and relax for a moment will sooth your body all the way down to a cellular level and allow your body to take a break.
  • Mindfulness. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you may not get the chance to stop and listen to what your body is telling you. For example, maybe you are so busy that you stop for a quick burger at McDonalds, even though your body is lacking nutrients, or you are just too busy to get your solid eight hours of sleep at night. While doing restorative yoga, you have time to listen to your body and allow yourself to become self-aware through breathing.
  • Feel Safe and Nurtured. Believe it or not, leading a busy lifestyle can actually bring much stress and anxiety into your life. This can bring a constant feeling of jitteriness, or even health problems like high blood pressure. Restorative yoga gives you the ability to reconnect to your inner peace and nature, and reclaim who you really are beneath all of that constant stress.
  • Weight Loss. Among the health problems that stress and anxiety brings, weight loss is one of them. Having stress causes the body to produce cortisol, which causes the body to gain fat. Some people go through constant diets and weight loss regimens to try to relieve themselves of this excess fat build up, when they really just need to lower their stress levels.

Restorative yoga brings an all around healthier and happier lifestyle. Here is a video showing five restorative yoga poses that you can do to relieve stress from the comfort of your own home!
