Shonagh Masterson
My name’s Shonagh and I found yoga after my long term relationship ended. I needed something to focus on for me & take my mind off things. I had previously done ballet & jazz dance for 12 years. I went to my first hot yoga class in 2015 with a friend. Five minutes into the first class I thought I was going to pass out between the heat and the high intensity of the class, but I powered through the 8 classes we had signed up to & ended up falling in love with yoga. I also have an injury from birth which yoga has helped me to manage the pain.
In 2016 the idea of doing my yoga teacher training was on my mind but just for my own benefit & I was recommended by my teacher who had been through the elbowroom yoga teacher training program to do my training there. So from 2017-2018 I did my yoga teacher training & I loved it, such amazing teachers with years of knowledge & a wonderful class to experience it with. I gained so much that I decided I wanted to teach & share my love of yoga. I am currently a full-time chemist working in a laboratory & yoga is one of my hobbies as well as singing in a choir. I started my journey of teaching yoga in 2019. If I hadn’t gone through that breakup I might never have found yoga, so for that, I am grateful. Everything happens for a reason.
