How Can Physiotherapy Help?
This week we will be introducing you to our resident Physiotherapist Fionn Healy. We will give you an insight in how he works and how he may be able to help you.
Fionn is a fully licensed Chartered Physiotherapist with current membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. He obtained his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree at Trinity College Dublin.
Fionn has had clinical placements many of the major hospitals in Dublin and has spent time working in San Diego California in a private practice.
Having worked in private practice in Ireland and also the UK Fionn has gained valuable hands on musculoskeletal experience. He specialises in musuloskeletal injuries. An active competitor in martial arts he has worked with various teams and athletes in sports such as rugby, soccer and GAA.
What Is A Chartered Physiotherapist?
A Chartered Physiotherapist is a university graduate with hospital-based training who has comprehensive knowledge of how the body works, along with specialist training in the diagnosis and treatment of muscle and joint pain. When you choose a physiotherapist such as Fionn who is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered physiotherapists (ISCP), you’ll enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that they are a part of Ireland’s only professional body within its field.
What Happens During Your First Physiotherapy Appointment?
Your Chartered Physiotherapist will:
- Ask you some general questions regarding your general health, occupation and hobbies and specific questions relating to your symptoms and how they affect your activities of daily living;
- Assess your condition during a physical examination;
make a diagnosis; - Design a treatment programme for your condition
Give you a customised exercise programme where appropriate; - Advise on activities for daily living or return to sport;
- Liaise with other medical professionals e.g. your GP, with your permission, on your condition and progress as necessary.
