Craniosacral Therapy for Anxiety and Stress
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle way of working with your body, using a light therapeutic touch to encourage the release of symptoms caused by physical, psychological and emotional stress.
This is a therapy which enhances the body’s own healing abilities. It involves gentle manipulations as the therapist both tests for restrictions and “listens” to the quality of the craniosacral rhythm.
In our modern life, with its high energy and fast pace, it’s difficult to find the time for ourselves and to slow down. This results in a build-up of stresses every day. While some of us are good at managing stress for others it can become overwhelming.
How can CST help?
The action of stressors on our body activates our autonomic nervous system – which controls our breathing, digestive system and hormone system. The autonomic nervous system has a sensory feedback to the central nervous system (our brain and spinal cord). Craniosacral therapy helps to regulate the central nervous system.
How can it help with anxiety and depression?
Whether you realise it or not, we store a lot of our emotions and stresses in our body tissues. These over time can build up to physical restrictions. If you think about how many sayings there are about our bodies and emotions, ‘butterflies in your tummy’, ‘yellow belly’. We obviously have an innate awareness of these emotions in our bodies.
Craniosacral therapy works with your body to gently release these physical restrictions and in doing so can help us to release the trapped stressor or emotions that are caught up in that area.
